Lake BuchananInks LakeLake LBJLake Marble Falls

The Texas Highland Lakes is a chain of six man-made lakes in Central Texas formed by several dams on the Colorado River starting with Lake Buchanan and ending with Lake Austin.  The dams provide flood control and are used to generate hydroelectric power.  The Colorado River, which had a history of flooding was tamed by the construction of the dams, all constructed by the Lower Colorado River Authority during the 1930's and 1940's. Below is a brief description of each lake and current listings of the waterfront properites available.

Lake Buchanan
  • Location: Burnet and Llano counties
  • Lake Area: 22,335 acres
  • Length: 30.65 miles long
  • Width: 4.92 miles at widest point
  • Elevation when full: 1,020.35 ft. above msl
  • Dam Name/Year Built: Buchanan Dam, 1933-1937

Lake Buchanan is the first lake in the Highland Lakes chain.  Whatever it is you like to do, whether it's swimming, fishing, sunbathing, or exploring, Lake Buchanan has it all.  The Vanishing Texas River Cruise takes you around for a couple of hours and shows the beauty of the lake.  You can see many waterfalls up close or spot the nesting bald eagles from November through March.  Morgan Creek and Beaver Creek are known for their coves with calm water great for swimming or just wading in the water.  Lake Buchanan Adventures offers many guided tours that include hiking, biking and exploring the waterfalls and caves.  If you are an avid fisherman, you can take one of the guided tours and catch some of the many different fish that populate Lake Buchanan.  Lake Buchanan is a beautiful lake to visit, and no matter what your interests are, you can always find something fun at Lake Buchanan.

Inks Lake, the second lake in the Highland Lakes chain, is a wonderful place to visit.  Inks Lake State Park, which is the most popular state park in Texas, is always full of things to do.  The park has a waterfront nine hole golf course that is open to the public.  If you're looking for a fun place to eat you can go to "The Catfish Barge."  It was built on an actual floating barge, and while you're waiting to be seated you can feed the catfish that come right up to the barge and eat out of your hand.  You can also spot the deer and turkey that inhabit the state park, and if you're more of a water person, but don't own a boat there are many places around the lake to rent canoes, kayaks and paddleboats.  Inks Lake is a great family oriented lake, full of activities for your whole family, so no one will ever get bored.

Real Estate Tips
Selling Your Home >Effective Marketing

If your home has been listed for a number of weeks and you have only seen it featured in one newspaper ad, you may start feeling anxious. Although your house is being shown regularly, you wonder if the agent is doing enough.

Home sellers often equate effective marketing with classified ads in the weekend Sunday real estate section. However, the most skilled real estate agents know the market well enough to be aware of where the prospective buyers for your home are likely to come from. They will look for the best ways to reach those people through direct mail, telephone contact or specialized ads in neighborhood publications. They will also work to get their colleagues excited about your house, especially agents who have many listings or sales in your neighborhood. And remember--it is important for you and your agent to communicate often so you will know exactly what is being done to sell your home.
