To Begin Your Search for Waterfront Listings Please Select One of the Lakes Listed Below
The Texas Highland Lakes is a chain of six man-made lakes in Central Texas formed by several dams on the Colorado River starting with Lake Buchanan and ending with Lake Austin. The dams provide flood control and are used to generate hydroelectric power. The Colorado River, which had a history of flooding was tamed by the construction of the dams, all constructed by the Lower Colorado River Authority during the 1930's and 1940's. Below is a brief description of each lake and current listings of the waterfront properites available. Lake Buchanan is the first lake in the Highland Lakes chain. Whatever it is you like to do, whether it's swimming, fishing, sunbathing, or exploring, Lake Buchanan has it all. The Vanishing Texas River Cruise takes you around for a couple of hours and shows the beauty of the lake. You can see many waterfalls up close or spot the nesting bald eagles from November through March. Morgan Creek and Beaver Creek are known for their coves with calm water great for swimming or just wading in the water. Lake Buchanan Adventures offers many guided tours that include hiking, biking and exploring the waterfalls and caves. If you are an avid fisherman, you can take one of the guided tours and catch some of the many different fish that populate Lake Buchanan. Lake Buchanan is a beautiful lake to visit, and no matter what your interests are, you can always find something fun at Lake Buchanan.
Inks Lake, the second lake in the Highland Lakes chain, is a wonderful place to visit. Inks Lake State Park, which is the most popular state park in Texas, is always full of things to do. The park has a waterfront nine hole golf course that is open to the public. If you're looking for a fun place to eat you can go to "The Catfish Barge." It was built on an actual floating barge, and while you're waiting to be seated you can feed the catfish that come right up to the barge and eat out of your hand. You can also spot the deer and turkey that inhabit the state park, and if you're more of a water person, but don't own a boat there are many places around the lake to rent canoes, kayaks and paddleboats. Inks Lake is a great family oriented lake, full of activities for your whole family, so no one will ever get bored.
Lake LBJ, along the shores of Horseshoe Bay, is the third lake in the Highland Lakes chain and the most popular. Lake LBJ stays at a constant level year round so no matter what, you can always have a wonderful day out on the lake. If you love to fish there are many different kinds of fish that populate the lake, so whatever your experience level, you should be able to reel in something. The Granite Beach Water Park is wonderful for a great day in the sun. They have waterslides, an in-water trampoline, waterfalls and lodges around the shore so you can stay however long you want to. Lake LBJ Yacht Club and Marina also has fun for the whole family. You can eat great food and relax next to the water. If you want to spend your day out of the water, Horseshoe Bay offers three championship golf courses to challenge you. So, whether you come to Lake LBJ for a day in the water or a relaxing afternoon enjoying the view, there is something for everyone.
Lake Marble Falls is the fourth lake in the Highland Lakes chain. There are many things to see and do all around Lake Marble Falls. The lake offers boating, jet skiing, wakeboarding and fishing. Also, every August there is the Lakefest Drag Boat Races on Lake Marble Falls, which is one of the biggest in Texas. However, if you're interested in other activities, there is hunting, fishing, golfing, shopping and sight seeing. And when you want a bite to eat, the River City Grille restaurant is right on the water next to the bridge with amazing views and great food. If you want something more upscale there is Cafe 909 which is rated one of the top ten restaurants in Central Texas. Lake Marble Falls is a beautiful lake in a small town, but there is always something to do and somewhere to go.
Lake Travis is the fifth lake in the Highland Lakes chain. Known for its crystal clear water and fun atmosphere Lake Travis is full of things to do. Lake Travis has many great places to boat, jet ski, wakeboard or just relax in the water with your friends and family. There are many restaurants around the shores of Lake Travis, and many of them have places for you to pull your boat up and park while you eat. Lake Travis has everything to offer and much more. Lake Austin is the six and final lake in the Highland Lakes chain. Lake Austin attracts many visitors from all over because of the mild climate and great fun. There is fishing, boating, jet skiing, wakeboarding or just wading in the water. Also, Lake Austin is close to many places to shop, sight see or relax and eat. Real Estate Contracts >Selling Before Buying
Timing can sometimes be difficult if you have to sell a home before you can buy another one. Most people need the equity from the sale of their first home for the down payment on the new house. If your present home goes on the market first, you may be concerned that it will sell before you find the one you want to buy. On the other hand, if you find the perfect home before your present home is under contract, the sellers may be reluctant to accept your offer, and you may be too nervous to sign a contract.
It is a good idea to sit down with a good real estate agent for some professional advice before you begin your search. It will probably be necessary to be flexible on the closing date, because it can be easier to find a home that you want to buy than to sell your present home. After finding the house you want, you can ask the lender about arranging a short-term bridge loan that can make the purchase possible before you sell your current residence.
